Where is the Stimulus Money for Small Business?
To date the Obama administration has spent about 5% or $39.35 billion of the $787 Billion Dollars stimulus plan. Does this seem small in a time of dire economic decline? It does to me so I did some digging around. There are two portions of the stimulus plan that affect small business and federal contractors. One is stimulus spending and the other is tax cuts targeting small business. The Obama administration claims that 600,000 jobs will be saved or created by summer’s end. The administration also claims that the stimulus pipe is cleared and funded and the bulk of the work is yet to come this summer. This said, how can small business take advantage of stimulus spending now? One way is by understanding the tax implication of this year’s activity. I have attached an SBA document that outlines the ways you can use the tax changes to help your business. As far as the money from stimulus spending goes there is one way to track the money allocated from a subcontracting standpoint. The FPDS publishes the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Report. This reports actions that have already taken place, the amount, location, contractor, and type of work. As a new federal Contractor or small business not yet established to do business as a federal prime contractor this report is invaluable.  You can track spending by state, find large prime contractors and contact them for opportunities as a subcontractor. To learn more about prime contracting and subcontracting opportunities with the Federal Government visit our website at www.jetgov.com. Stay tuned for changes in the level of funding for small business opportunity through Federal Contracting. Right now the Feds are advertising about 12,400 opportunities out for bid in the last 30 days. Not a bad place to look for work in this economy. The level of diversity assures almost any business some opportunity and most will find more than one contract that is worthy of investigation. Contact us today for help getting started.
